From Starting in 2020 to Becoming a Top REALTOR® in Las Cruces, New Mexico: My Journey of Persistence, Purpose, and Growth

Success doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes, it takes years of showing up when nobody is watching.

In 2020, I began my journey in real estate in Las Cruces, New Mexico, with ambition, determination, and a vision for what I wanted to build.

What I didn't know was just how much this industry would challenge me, stretch me, humble me, and ultimately help shape the person and real estate professional I am today.

Fast-forward to 2026, and I achieved something that once seemed so far away: earning the #1 position among the Top 10 agents at EXIT Realty Horizons in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Six years.

Six years of long days, late nights, difficult conversations, missed opportunities, contracts that didn't make it to closing, constant learning, and more pivots than I can count.

But also six years of growth, meaningful relationships, incredible customers, and opportunities I never imagined when I first started.

And here's what I want people to understand.

The ranking is an accomplishment. The journey is what I'm most proud of.

2020: Building a Real Estate Career When the World Was Changing

Imagine beginning a career in one of the most relationship-driven industries during a year when the entire world was learning how to operate differently.

That was 2020.

The real estate industry was changing, buyers and sellers were navigating uncertainty, and I was learning how to establish myself as a REALTOR® in Southern New Mexico.

I wasn't walking into a guaranteed paycheck. Real estate doesn't work that way.

There was no promise that the next phone call would become a customer, that the next showing would turn into an offer, or that the hours invested in a transaction would ever result in a closing.

I had to learn the contracts, understand the market, build relationships, market properties, negotiate, and establish trust.

And I had to learn something even more important: how to keep going when the results weren't coming as quickly as the effort.

Because working hard and seeing immediate results are two very different things.

I learned that success in real estate wasn't just about selling houses. It was about becoming someone people could depend on during one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

The Years Nobody Sees: Late Nights, Setbacks, and Sacrifice

People see the sold signs.

They see the professional photos, the listings, the social media posts, the beautiful homes, and the recognition.

What they don't always see is everything happening behind the scenes.

The late nights reviewing contracts and researching comparable properties.

The hours spent preparing market analyses, following up with potential customers, coordinating inspections, negotiating repairs, and finding solutions to unexpected problems.

The weekends spent hosting open houses when I could have been doing something else.

The conversations with buyers who were discouraged by rising interest rates.

The sellers who needed honest guidance when their homes weren't selling.

The deals that looked promising but fell apart.

And the constant pressure of running a business where your income is never guaranteed.

There were moments of frustration. Moments when I questioned my approach. Times when I worked incredibly hard and still had to start over.

But I kept showing up.

Not because it was easy.

Not because every day was productive.

And certainly not because every decision I made was perfect.

I kept showing up because I believed that consistency, integrity, and persistence would eventually create something bigger than the challenges in front of me.

Learning to Pivot Instead of Giving Up

One of the greatest lessons I've learned since becoming a New Mexico real estate agent is that the market doesn't care about your plans.

It changes.

Interest rates rise. Buyer confidence shifts. Inventory fluctuates. Builders adjust their pricing. Sellers have to reconsider expectations. Transactions become more complicated.

And the strategies that worked yesterday may not work tomorrow.

I've built my career around learning how to recognize those changes and respond intelligently.

Instead of relying on the same marketing methods year after year, I've continued investing in technology, video marketing, digital platforms, real estate education, and better ways to serve my customers.

I've expanded my experience across resale homes, new construction, vacant land, manufactured homes, custom construction opportunities, and resort real estate throughout Southern New Mexico.

I've worked with builders, buyers, sellers, investors, and families with very different goals.

Each experience has taught me something new.

And each challenge has reinforced one of my strongest beliefs:

You don't always need a completely new goal. Sometimes, you need a better strategy to reach it.

That's why I believe in pricing intelligently, recognizing market changes early, and pivoting when the data tells us it's time.

In real estate, persistence matters. But persistence without strategy can become expensive.

My customers deserve both.

From REALTOR® to Associate Broker, Community Leader, and Industry Professional

As my business grew, so did my understanding of the responsibility that comes with representing people in real estate.

I wanted to do more than open doors and write offers.

I wanted to understand the bigger picture.

How does development affect our communities? How do zoning decisions influence future housing opportunities? What challenges do builders face? What should property owners understand about land use, infrastructure, and growth?

That desire to learn and contribute led me to serve as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for Doña Ana County.

It's a responsibility that has given me another perspective on the future of our region.

My work in real estate has also connected me with new construction communities, local builders, and development opportunities throughout Las Cruces, Santa Teresa, Elephant Butte, and surrounding areas.

From helping first-time homebuyers understand their options to assisting sellers with complicated property decisions, I've learned that every transaction requires more than market knowledge.

It requires patience, communication, accountability, and the ability to solve problems.

And that's the kind of real estate professional I've worked to become.

2026: Earning the #1 Spot at EXIT Realty Horizons

In September 2026, I reached a milestone that meant more to me than I can fully explain.

I was recognized as the #1 agent on EXIT Realty Horizons' Top 10 agent ranking.

EXIT Realty Horizons Top Ten REALTORS® — #1 Cristal Garcia
EXIT Realty Horizons Top 10 REALTORS® — #1 Cristal Garcia

It wasn't just about seeing my name at the top of a list.

It represented six years of work.

Every customer who trusted me.

Every difficult transaction I helped navigate.

Every negotiation that required another phone call, another conversation, another solution.

Every time I had to change direction and try something different.

Every late night when there was still more work to do.

And every moment when quitting would have been easier than continuing.

I'm proud of that recognition, but I also understand that a ranking doesn't define the entire value of a real estate professional.

The real measure of my success is the trust I've earned and the responsibility I carry when someone chooses me to represent them.

Being recognized among the top agents at my brokerage is an honor. Continuing to earn my customers' confidence is the work that matters every day.

Taking Southern New Mexico to a National Audience

Another defining moment in my career came in 2026 when I was selected to host The American Dream TV, a nationally distributed television program highlighting real estate, lifestyle, and the communities that make our country unique.

My journey with the show began with an opportunity to spotlight the New Mexico Open at Turtleback Mountain Golf & Resort.

For me, this wasn't simply another professional accomplishment.

It was an opportunity to help bring attention to Southern New Mexico.

To showcase the people, businesses, builders, landscapes, and stories that make this region worth discovering.

Las Cruces and the surrounding communities have so much to offer, and I believe they deserve a bigger spotlight.

Whether I'm helping someone relocate to Las Cruces, showcasing new construction, introducing buyers to resort living near Elephant Butte, or sharing the stories of local businesses, I want my work to contribute to the growth and visibility of the communities I serve.

Because success becomes even more meaningful when you can use it to create opportunities for others.

Why My Journey Matters to Buyers and Sellers in Las Cruces

You might be wondering what any of this has to do with choosing a real estate agent.

My answer is simple.

The qualities it took to build my business are the same qualities I bring to my customers.

When you hire me to sell your home in Las Cruces, you're hiring someone who understands that putting a sign in the yard isn't a complete marketing strategy.

You're working with someone who studies the market, evaluates the competition, understands pricing, and is willing to have the honest conversations necessary to help you make informed decisions.

When you work with me to buy a home in Southern New Mexico, you're working with someone who understands that purchasing real estate is about much more than finding a beautiful property.

It's about financing, inspections, negotiations, contracts, deadlines, property conditions, and protecting your interests throughout the transaction.

And when challenges arise, because sometimes they do, I don't believe in disappearing or hoping the problem resolves itself.

I believe in communicating, evaluating the options, and working toward solutions.

My experience has taught me that being a great REALTOR® isn't about promising customers that everything will be perfect.

It's about being prepared to guide them when things aren't.

More Than a Real Estate Transaction: Building House of Cristal

House of Cristal represents the business and reputation I've worked to build.

It represents a commitment to professionalism, education, marketing, and personal service.

I've invested in growing my knowledge of real estate contracts, market trends, new construction, property marketing, technology, and the changing needs of buyers and sellers.

I've also developed a passion for helping other real estate professionals grow through training and education.

Because I know what it feels like to start from the beginning.

I know how overwhelming this industry can be when you're learning everything at once.

And I believe there's room to build a successful business while helping other people become successful, too.

My vision is bigger than closing another transaction.

It's about creating a recognizable, trusted real estate brand in Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico that people associate with hard work, honesty, knowledge, and results.

To Anyone Building Something From Nothing

If you're reading this because you're working toward a goal that still feels out of reach, I want to leave you with something.

Don't confuse a difficult season with a failed journey.

There will be days when you question whether the effort is worth it.

There will be people who advance faster than you.

There will be opportunities you miss, decisions you wish you'd made differently, and moments when you feel like you're starting all over again.

Keep learning.

Keep improving.

Be willing to change your approach.

Take responsibility when something doesn't work.

Celebrate your progress, even when it feels small.

And understand that the years nobody applauds may be the very years that prepare you for the opportunities everyone eventually sees.

I started my real estate journey in 2020.

In 2026, I earned the #1 position among the Top 10 agents at my brokerage.

But I don't see that as the finish line.

I see it as proof that the work matters, the pivots matter, the persistence matters, and the person you become along the way matters most of all.

And I'm still building.
